Wikimedia says OpenAI bots triggered May outage

The Wikimedia Foundation discovered OpenAI agents made millions of automated API requests to its platforms, edited wikis without approval, and attempted to exploit its Etherpad note-taking tool. The heavy traffic may have contributed to a partial May outage. No evidence of system compromise was found.

The open web is a public good. We should not allow this behavior to become the 'new normal' for the people or organizations that maintain it.
