On Friday 20th November 2020, a bespoke Garrard trophy will be presented to the owner of the winning horse at the Bahrain International Trophy.
The magnificent sterling silver trophy is designed to capture the prestige of this international horse-racing event, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Designed and handcrafted by Garrard, the new design for 2020 is an evolution of the 2019 trophy, which was also created by the House. The trophy’s lid features a single silver pearl, acknowledging Bahrain’s long tradition of pearl diving. With scrolled handles and a row of galloping racehorses it also includes the coat of arms of Bahrain and is supported by an elegant mahogany and sterling silver base measuring an impressive 45cm.
Unlike a perpetual trophy, which is held temporarily until the next edition of an event, the winner of the Bahrain International Trophy is allowed to keep their award. For 2020, the victorious jockey and trainer will also be given a bespoke sterling silver snuffbox crafted by Garrard and hand-engraved with the Bahrain International Trophy logo.
From the prestigious Gold Cup, which is presented by HM Queen Elizabeth II each year at Royal Ascot, to the striking British Masters trophy, redesigned by the House in 2015, the 2020 Bahrain International Trophy is the latest in a long line of famous trophies created by Garrard.
“An international sporting event is always a cause for celebration,” said Joanne Milner, Chief Executive of Garrard. “It was a real honour to be asked to create the trophy for this esteemed horse race and we are thrilled to be a part of this important moment in sporting history for the Kingdom of Bahrain.”
Now in its second year, the Bahrain International Trophy will be held at the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club (REHC). The inaugural event, which took place in November 2019, attracted world-renowned runners, jockeys, owners, trainers and media figures, and the 2020 edition is all set to build on that success.
