Records third consecutive win at 20th Asian Games

Study quantifies 2.4 years lost to loneliness
Researchers at Tulane University analyzed 277,489 adults aged 40–69, finding that loneliness and social isolation significantly shorten disease-free life expectancy. Women with both types of isolation lost 2.4 years of healthy living on average; men lost 1.7 years. For mental health, women lost 3.7 years free from depression or anxiety, men lost 5.8 years. The study, published in Nature Communications, suggests lifestyle changes alone cannot offset loneliness's risks.

Typhoon dumps record rain across Japan's Kanto region
Typhoon Dujuan brought record rainfall to Japan's Kanto region, triggering mudslides that killed nine people and left four missing. Oshima Island recorded 832 millimeters of rain in 48 hours, more than 2.4 times September's average. Chiba Prefecture reported six deaths and two missing; Kanagawa three deaths and two unaccounted for. Over 600 houses sustained damage from flooding and mudslides.

Measures gravity constant G at NIST, finds 0.0235% difference

Hits 75 percent drug classification rate via 4D imaging
Researchers at UC San Diego used 4D lattice light-sheet microscopy to build MitoSpace, a deep-learning model that mimics mitochondrial behavior. Trained on 40,000 single-cell movies from cancer cells treated with 25 compounds, MitoSpace increased drug classification accuracy to 75 percent from 56 percent using traditional 2D images, and can predict cell energy states without retraining on new drugs.

Reveals 2 percent threshold governs all black holes
An international team led by Andrew Mummery and Adelle Goodwin discovered that black holes of all sizes launch jets at the same critical point in their feeding cycle. By studying 20 tidal disruption events using optical, ultraviolet, X-ray, and radio observations, they found jets form when accretion rates drop to 2 percent of the Eddington limit—the same threshold governing small black holes in the Milky Way.
