School Mini Olympics match results

Manama, Mar. 13 (BNA): The Indian School has kicked-off their title quest with a bang at the 5th School Mini Olympics, organized by Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

A well-earned 3-0 win over Al Maaly School in the first elimination match of the primary boys’ stage put the Indian School in the competition’s next round against Sacred Heart School, who eased to a 6-0 victory over the New Indian School.

In other matches, Hawar beat AMA 5-2, Eastern beat Al Mahd 3-0, Al Nasseem beat Al Iman 3-1, Al Manar beat New Millennium 3-0, Shareefa Al Awadi beat Modern Knowledge 4-3, British School beat Creativity 3-0, Middle East beat A. Rahman Kanoo 3-0, Al Imam Malik bin Anas beat Busaiteen 3-1, Al Hekma beat Al Noor 3-2 and Askar beat Palms School 4-1.

A record 59 schools in total are lined up for the football championship this year, including 24 schools in the primary stage and 18 in the intermediate stage.

Elsewhere, the Sacred Heart ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams reached the quarterfinals in the intermediate stage girls’ basketball championship, being held at the Bahrain Sports Federation or People with Disabilities Gym.

The finals will be staged today, with four quarter-final matches that will determine the battle. Sacred Heart ‘A’ face Eastern School in the first match. It will be followed by Indian School ‘B’ vs Modern Knowledge clash, Sacred Heart ‘B’ take on Al Salam and Ibn Khuldoon play AMA.

In table tennis, the first rounds of the primary and intermediate stages in the girls’ section took place at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association’s gym in Riffa.

In the primary stage championship, Fatima Abdulla of Al Safa School beat V. B. Manogna of Indian School to reach the final, while the other semi final match saw Goh Yi Yi of AMA School go down to V. B. Mansitha of the Indian School, setting up the final clash with Fatima.

The intermediate stage saw 32 players compete for a place in the final, as Amruta Amit of Bahrain Indian School edged Asheeba Ayub of New Millennium School to reach the final against Maryam Abdulla, who beat Ruqaya Al Yasi in the other semifinal tie.

Al Hekma, British School, Sacred Heart and AMA dominated their respective groups in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The finals of both primary and intermediate stage will take place today from 9.30am onwards.

The boys’ finals will be at the Bahrain Basketball Association gym in Um Al Hassam, while the girls’ match are set to take place at the Bahrain Sports Federation for People with Disabilities premises.

Meanwhile, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar thanked Middle East Hospital for supporting the School Mini Olympics this year, by providing an ambulance vehicle offering free services during the competition.
